NSW: Joy for estate agents on Kirribilli House sale option
Real estate agents are salivating at the prospect that the prime minister's Sydney
residence could be put up for sale.
Federal Labor Leader MARK LATHAM yesterday foreshadowed that, as prime minister, he
may sell the harbourside mansion with views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House.
Mr LATHAM says that as prime minister he'd live in The Lodge in Canberra, unlike JOHN
HOWARD, who's made Kirribilli House his family home since winning office in 1996.
Current residential land values in Kirribilli of about $12,000 per square metre would
put the 300 square metre home and its 6,000 square metres of grounds at $72 million.
But leading real estate agent JOHN MCGRATH says it would more likely fetch around $50
million due to the limited market and because of heritage concerns.
