Fed: Ruddock says accept decision
Indigenous Affairs Minister PHILIP RUDDOCK says the Yorta Yorta decision by the HighCourt further clarifies native title.
The High Court has upheld an earlier Federal Court decision that the forebears of theYorta Yorta claimants had ceased to occupy their land in accordance with traditional lawsand customs.
Mr RUDDOCK says the court makes it clear there is not a valid claim.
He's told ABC Radio the High Court made the original Mabo decision on native titleand the subsequent Wik decision which helped clarify what was meant by Mabo.
He says people who've relied on the court to establish native title should be preparedto accept the decision of the umpire.
