QLD:Cairns will see storm surge up to 2 metres

Queensland Premier ANNA BLIGH says mandatory evacuation orders are being given in council
areas from Cook to Hinchinbrook .. to people in areas at high risk from Cyclone Yasi.

She says those people should seek accommodation with family and friends .. but anyone
with nowhere to go should register with authorities by phoning 1300 993 191.

State disaster management coordinator IAN STEWART says metropolitan Cairns will be
significantly inundated when Yasi makes landfall .. expected to be late tomorrow night
or early Thursday morning.

Meanwhile .. about 216 people have been evacuated from nursing homes in Cairns.
